Originally built in 1892, the Windsor was fashioned after the finest hosteliers of late 19th century Europe. The hotel incorporates a pleasantly eclectic mix of architectural elements, noticed especially in the turret and round tower, and in the unusual array of window styles. The five-story castle-like building occupies nearly an entire city block in historic downtown Americus, and was built as a destination for northern hunters and vacationers looking for the mild winters of the south. Bridal Suite
Overlooking Historic District. High speed Internet,1 King Bed A private staircase leads to the Bridal Suite, which is located in the Windsor round tower and overlooks the historic district. Guests can have a 360 degree view of historic downtown Americus. The suite features a custom made demi-canopied king bed, and all the furniture, fabrics, design and colors used have been documented as authentic Victorian in style. Modern-day amenities are high speed Internet service, remote control television, individually controlled heating and air-conditioning and in-room coffee maker. The suite has accommodated various famous and infamous guests over the years. It is rumored that John Dillinger or Al Capone spent the night in the Suite with an armed bodyguard posted at the foot of the stairs. Special touches are available for guests spending the night in the Bridal Suite at an additional cost, and include a bottle of champagne and roses.

In November 2002, Mr. and Mrs. Carter spent the night in the Presidential Suite to officially make it the Carter Presidential Suite. The suite features a king bed and sitting area. Area Attractions
Americus is the home of Habitat for Humanity International headquarters, and its Global Village, a museum that shows samples of houses that Habitat builds around the world. The beautiful and renovated historic Rylander Theatre is also located in Americus, across from the Windsor, and features plays, shows and musicals year-round. Plains, hometown of former president Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn, is located only 9 miles from Americus. The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is located in Plains, and it comprises Mr. Carter's boyhood house and farm, the Plains Depot, headquarters of his presidential campaign, as well as his high school, which was turned into a museum. Every year in September, Plains hosts its popular Peanut Festival that attracts people from all over the nation. Americus is also located 10 Miles away from Andersonville Civil War Village and Andersonville Historic National Site. The small village of Andersonville features antique stores, visitor center and the Drummer Boy Museum, a collection of Civil War memorabillia that includes 15 complete Union and Confederate uniforms, guns, swords, flags, documents and photographs. The Andersonville National Historic Site consists of the Andersonville National Cemetery and the historic prison site, and serves as a memorial to all American prisoners of war throughout the nation*s history. Every year the small village of Andersonville welcomes crowds from all over the nation to its Spring and Fall Annual Fairs. The Georgia Rural Telephone Museum in Leslie, claimed the World*s Largest Collection of Telephones and Telephone Memorabilia, is located only 12 miles from Americus and the beautiful Georgia Veterans State Park by the Lake Blackshear is about 30 miles, in nearby Cordele. Other attractions are the Callaway Gardens -97 miles-, Westville, the 19-century village, and Providence Canyon State Park -37 miles-. The SAM Shortline Excursion Train headquartered in Cordele -30 miles-, offers different tours and itineraries that stop in Americus, Plains, Leslie and surrounding towns. The Train offers an excellent opportunity to appreciate the view of the scenic countryside and historic towns along the way. From Atlanta: Take I-75 South from Atlanta. Exit at Exit 127 and follow 26S into Montezuma. Take Route 49 South past Andersonville and into Americus. Drive into Americus to Jackson Street and turn left. You will see the Windsor on your left. From Atlanta Airport parking lot: -Follow signs to Riverdale Rd. -There is a traffic light at dead end into Riverdale Rd.... Must turn right or left -Turn Left at traffic light -Follow Riverdale Rd. about 1.5 miles to I-285. Stay on left hand lane, about 2.5 miles, to I-75 South -Follow I-75 South toward Macon (75 miles) -Follow I-475 (10 miles) at Macon for a shortcut to bypass Macon traffic -I-475 rejoins I-75 South just south of Macon -Continue on I-75 South to Perry (25 miles) -Take exit #135 (Montezuma/Marshallville) on the south side of Perry -Go up exit ramp, stop and turn Right (heading west-southwest) on GA 127. Follow signs to Montezuma -About 3 miles from the interstate, the road forks: Montezuma to the left, Marshallville to the right - Go Left - GA 224. Follow GA 224 to a stop sign at GA 26 (about 25 miles) -Turn Right on GA 26. You will drive through Montezuma and Oglethorpe (through 2 traffic lights) on GA 26 for about 5 miles -GA 26 crosses GA 49 southwst of Oglethorpe. You will come to a stop sign at GA 49 -Turn left on GA 49 and follow about 23 miles to Americus -Entering Americus, you will see a gas station on the left and a Wendy's Hamburguer shop on the right -Continue past Wendy's, you will see Sumter Regional Hospital on your right. Continue on Forsyth Street (a one way street) in the left hand lane to the fourth traffic light (Lee street). Take a left (Citizen's Bank will be on the left hand corner). The Windsor Hotel parking lot will be on the right before you get to the traffic light at the intersection of Lee and Lamar Streets.
