Situated overlooking Lough Corrib, the Glenlo Abbey Hotel is a converted 18th century abbey set in a 138 acre estate, originally home to Galway's tribal leaders, four kilometres from the city centre. The 46 guestrooms, some with lakeside views, feature traditional décor with warm fabrics and dark wood furnishings. Modern amenities include cable television, direct dial phones, clothes presses, and safes. All have marble bathrooms with bathrobes, designer toiletries, telephones, makeup mirrors, bidets,and hair dryers.
The Hotel interior features towering ceilings and stained glass walls and can be hired for private dinner parties, banquets and corporate events. The Pavilion is a multi purpose event facility for up to 200 delegates with a function suite, private foyer bar and six syndicate rooms, all fully equipped with ISDN and Internet connections; business and secretarial services are also available. Guests can enjoy the intimate surroundings of the Kentfield Cocktail Lounge or sip coffee and cognacs in the library. Practical amenities include free parking, babysitting facilities, and concierge services. Golf enthusiasts can practise their swing onsite at the 9 hole double green lakeside course or on the 12 bay driving range. The hotel estate also offers; fly fishing on the lake, cruises aboard the flat bottomed lake boat, archery, and clay pigeon shooting. The nearest airport is Shannon International Airport, which is 91 kilometres from the hotel. Regular bus services are available from outside the terminal building to Limerick with connections to all of Ireland's major cit ies. Driving Directions
From the airport, take the main N18 route in the direction of Galway and Oranmore. Then take the N6 to Galway. On approaching Galway take the N59 towards Clifden and follow signs to Glenlo Abbey.
