Set in the centre of Stockholm, the Colonial is a budget hotel housed in a building dating from 1880, situated one kilometre from the Royal Palace and 700 metres from the central station. The 46 guestrooms are simply decorated and equipped with complimentary Internet connections. Budget rooms have shared bathroom facilities and cable TV, and guests must make their own beds (bed linen is provided at the front desk). Standard rooms have private bathrooms, CD players and televisions.
After breakfast, guests can check their e mails via complimentary wireless Internet access. Travellers can ask the multilingual staff at the 24 hour front desk for sightseeing advice. Those feeling energetic can rent bicycles to explore the city. Nearby attractions include the historic old town, one kilometre away, and the galleries and museums in the modern cultural district of Norrmalm can be found within 1.5 kilometres of the hotel. Stockholm Arlanda Airport is 42 kilometres from the hotel, with an approximate driving time of 30 minutes.
Driving Directions
The airport has three railway stations: one for long distance destinations and two for frequent express trains to Stockholm. Guests can catch an airport bus, which stops 400 metres from the hotel. Taxis run from directly outside the terminals. When taking a taxi, passengers should speak to a taxi coordinator, found outside the terminal building. A taxi to the hotel costs about SEK 400. There are also bus stations outside terminals 2, 4 and 5. Stockholm has an excellent T Banen subway system, as well as a bus and streetcar network. Taxi fares tend to be very expensive.
Driving directions: From the airport, take the E4 South exit towards Stockholm. When reaching the city limits, keep right and follow the signs to St Eriksplan. Turn left at Vanadisvagen and take the second right into Vastmannagatan.
