PRACTICALITIES |
 |
While the
tourist information centre
(tel 0751/22086) is too short-staffed to have regular opening hours, its brochure - with maps, details of festivals, walks and local beauty spots - is very useful. Staff there can also make reservations in rooms in the highland villages, as well as at
hotels
in town. The
Malamovata Kâshta
(tel 0751/29135; US$18-36), ul. Hristo Botev 25, offers cosy ensuites with TV in a restored nineteenth-century mansion, and contains one of the best
restaurants
in town, while the equally comfortable
Hristoff
, just off ul. Târgovska at Byalo More 4 (tel 0751/29113; US$18-36), also has neat ensuites, but in a more modern building.
Of the other restaurants, the
Gradina
, just off the main square on ul. T. Panitsa, is a popular outdoor place with cheesy live music, but there's no shortage of other similar places to choose from, with a cluster of lively establishments along ul. Târgovska.
