The airport is just a couple of kilometres south of the Donghe train station, and a twenty-minute taxi ride from hotels in this part of town. The CAAC office (tel 0472/4172266 ext 4258) is based at the Donghe Hotel, in the back building, on the right as you walk in.

There are two major train stations , one in Kundulun ( Baotou Zhan) and one in Donghe ( Baotou Dong Zhan) - all through-trains, including express trains from Beijing and Lanzhou, stop at both stations, so be sure to get off at the right one. The bus station is right opposite the Donghe train station; tickets for Hohhot should be bought on the bus, but for Dongsheng (every 30min), you should buy your ticket inside the bus station.

CITS is in Room 331 of the Baotou Hotel, no. 4 building (tel 0472/5154615). The staff here are very friendly and eager to help; some excellent English speakers are to hand. The PSB (for visas) is also in the Baotou, on the first floor.

If you want to change travellers' cheques, you will have to go to the main office of the Bank of China in Kundulun, on the main road just east of A'erding Square. The Bank of China's branches in Donghe can change cash only. The main post and telcommunications office is in Kundulun near the Bank of China, but there's also a post office in Donghe.
