Planes land at Mactan International Airport . Staff at the tourist information counter (Mon-Sat 6am-midnight) in the arrivals hall will help you arrange a taxi (P150) or shuttle to Cebu City itself, 8km away across the suspension bridge that links Mactan island to the main island of Cebu. Public transport from the airport does exist, but is unreliable. An alternative is to take a taxi as far as Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan island (P40-P50), then switch to public transport. Jeepneys go from here to Cebu City (P10). The arrival point for ferries is the harbour area beyond Fort San Pedro. Jeepneys and buses line up along Quezon Boulevard for the short journey into the city. Look for one marked Osmena Boulevard or Colon Sreet.

The main tourist information office (Mon-Sat 9.30am-5pm; tel 032/254 2811) is at the corner of Lapu-Lapu and Legaspi streets near Fort San Pedro. There's an Immigration Office (8am-noon & 1-5pm; tel 032/253 4339) on the 4th Floor, Ceutiaco Building, MC Briones Street. There is no shortage of places to change currency, particularly along the main drag of Osmena Boulevard where you'll also find the Cebu Doctor's Hospital (tel 032/253 7511). The post office , on Quezon Boulevard close to the port area, offers a poste restante service.

Internet cafés are proliferating in Cebu. Try Cybernet Cafée (tel 032/254 8533) at 151 Junquera St next to the Elicon Hotel Cafée or Ruftan Internet Cafée & Pensione on Legaspi Street. Both charge P50 an hour.
