There are daily
flights
to St Anthony from most of Newfoundland's larger settlements and from several of eastern Canada's main cities. The
airport
is near Seal Bay, a rather distant 55km west of town on Hwy 430, and onward transport to the centre is by taxi only - reckon on $40. If flying is out of your price range, Viking Express runs a
bus
service to St Anthony from Deer Lake
. For central
accommodation
, there's
Spruce Inn B&B
, 1 Spruce Lane (tel 454-3402 or 1-877/454-3402; up to $40/$40-60; April-Nov; the

, 340 West St (tel 454-2677; $40-60), a house surrounded by colourful flowerbeds. You'll find good seafood meals at the
Lightkeeper's Café
, at Fishing Point at the end of West Street. Next door is
The Great Viking Feast
- dinner theatre performed in a sod-grass hut - which serves up salmon, cod and moose to accompany the Viking-themed live entertainment. Dinners begin most evenings (June-Sept) at 7.30pm. Reservations are required (tel 454-4900 or 1-877/454-4900; $32 prix-fixe).
Unfortunately, there are no public transport connections between St Anthony and L'Anse aux Meadows, and the return taxi fare will cost you about $60. Alternatively, Tilden, at Woodward Motors on West Street (tel 454-4000) and at the airport (tel 454-8522), has reasonably priced, short-term car-rental deals
