FLORENCE ADDRESSES |
 |
Street-numbering
runs in relation to the river. If the street or square is parallel to the river, numbers start from the east and proceed towards the west. If the street is perpendicular to the river, the numbering starts from the end nearest the river bank. Odd numbers are on the left side of the street, even on the right.
However, beware that Florence has a complicated double system of street-numbering: commercial establishments (such as bars and restaurants) have
red
numbers (
rosso
), while private buildings have black or blue numbers - and the two systems don't run in tandem. This means, for example, that Via Mosca 35r might be next-door to Via Mosca 89, but several hundred metres from Via Mosca 33. There's no logic or purpose to it at all.
