Although the village now has a number of
restaurants
and
bars
, the choice can be limited out of the tourist season. The
Jabiru Restaurant and Bar
, on the left just before the road from the highway enters the village, is one of the most reliable places to eat, with good Creole and Garífuna dishes served under a thatched roof. Owner Anselma Christiana also runs the
Over the Waves
restaurant, on the beach in the village centre, and is extremely knowledgeable about Garífuna and Hopkins history. The tiny and friendly
Tyson's Diner
, north of the centre, serves good, simple Garífuna and Creole meals, while
Iris's Restaurant
, south of the centre, serves great breakfasts.
If you fancy a
drink
with the locals try the
Tropical Bar
or the
Watering Hole
, north and south of the centre respectively. For
live music
and an early evening
happy hour
check at the
Laru Beya
bar, on the beach where the road from the highway enters the village; nearby the
King Casava
restaurant offers live entertainment at weekends.
