Community Baboon Sanctuary
There's canoeing and horseback riding at the Community Baboon Sanctuary, which spreads across eight villages, but the main attraction is undoubtedly the endangered black howler monkey.

Altun Ha Ruins
Two Classic plazas, each studded with large temples, dominate the Altun Ha ruins. The Maya site, 9km from the Caribbean coast, was home to roughly 10,000 until the Maya collapse around 900-950 AD.
National Handicrafts Center
At the National Handicrafts Center craftsmen sell exquisite carvings made from zericote, a two-tone wood found only in this region.
St. John's Cathedral
Completed in 1820, St John's is the oldest Anglican cathedral in Central America, its battlement tower and mahogany beams having played host to the crowning of Miskito Indian kings throughout the Nineteenth Century.
Coastal Zone Museum
The Coastal Zone Museum contains informative exhibits on reef ecology, the centrepiece being a 3-D model of the area's entire reef system including the cayes and atolls.
