Broome's raging pub is the Roebuck Bay Hotel on Napier Terrace, with live entertainment, happy hours and garage bands. The least rough of the three bars here is the Pearlers' Rest . The Divers' Camp Tavern at Cable Beach comes a close second and usually gets the bands after the " Roey ". Two nightclubs are to be found in Chinatown that are open until 2am: the Nippon Inn on Dampier Terrace and Tokyo Joes round the corner on Napier Terrace, with banks of pool tables. If you prefer real ale to tinned lager pay a visit to the Broome Brewery at Matso's Store at the end of Hamersley Street where all sorts of local fermentations await you. But for a uniquely "Broometime" experience, Sun Pictures walk-in cinema in Chinatown is a real treat: watch the latest movies while mosquitoes nibble your ankles and the odd light aircraft comes in low across the screen. The Sunset Bar at the Cable Beach Inter-Continental has pricey cocktails but is worth the splurge at dusk.

The tourist office has information on various events, such as the Broome Fringe Arts Festival , usually held in early June, a celebration of local artiness and culture. However, the big one is the Shinju Matsuri , or Festival of the Pearl, in late August or early September - it lasts over a week and attracts people from all over the country. The town celebrates its ethnic diversity, and the pearl which created it, with the crowning of the Pearl Queen and a beach concert, finishing up with a huge fireworks display. Broome gets packed out for the Shinju, so unless you want to end up camping miles away, book your accommodation in advance. Exact dates for both festivals can be checked with the tourist office.
