Inverness
airport
(tel 01667/464000) is at Dalcross, seven miles east of the city; from here, bus #11 (Mon-Sat every 1hr-1hr 30min; 20min; £2.50) goes into town, while a
taxi
costs around £10. The
bus station
(tel 01463/233371) and
train station
(tel 0845/748 4950) both lie just off Academy Street to the east of the centre. The
tourist office
(June-Aug Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, Sat & Sun 9.30am-5pm; mid-July to Aug Mon-Fri until 8pm; rest of year Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-4pm; tel 01463/234353) is in a 1960s block on Castle Wynd, just five minutes' walk from the station. It stocks a wide range of literature on the area, including free maps, and the friendly staff can book local accommodation for a £3 fee.
Inverness is one of the few places in the Highlands where you're unlikely to have problems finding
accommodation
, although in July and August you'll have to book ahead. Good places to look for B&Bs include both banks of the river south of the Ness Bridge, and Kenneth Street and its offshoots on the west side of the river.
