The train station is half a mile south of the town centre over the river on the A27, with buses arriving either in the High Street or River Road. For accommodation , try Portreeves Acre , The Causeway (tel 01903/883277; £40-50) a welcoming place with en-suite rooms south of the Queen's Bridge, or the venerable Swan Hotel at the bottom of High Street (tel 01903/882314, ; £60-70), a fine old house with a cosy adjoining restaurant. Castle View (tel 01903/883029; £40-50), next door to the tourist office above the tearooms of the same name, is reasonable, and neighbouring Dukes Restaurant , 65 High St, with its spectacular gilded ceiling, also has a few rooms available (tel 01903/883847, ; £40-50). Arundel's youth hostel (tel 01903/882204; closed Nov to mid-Feb) is in a large Georgian house by the river at Warningcamp, a mile and a half northeast of town. You can camp at the hostel, or try the Maynards site (tel 01903/882075) at the top of the hill on the A27 two miles southeast of town. First choice for reasonably priced, good-quality food is the restaurant attached to the White Hart pub over the river at 3 Queen St (tel 01903/882374); alternatively try the Red Lion , on the High Street, for solid pub grub and real ales. Butlers Wine Bar , 25 Tarrant St (tel 01903/882222), is a popular choice for steak lovers.
