LAMBARI is the nearest you get to a downmarket spa town on the Circuito das Águas, though you wouldn't guess it from the prices of its main hotels. It has a beautiful lake and the obligatory spa park, but lacks the prosperous feel of Caxambu and São Lourenço. The Rodoviária is on Avenida Dr José Nicolau Mileo, within easy walking distance of the main square, Praça Conselheiro João Lisboa. Housed in the square, the Parque das Águas is small and scruffy, but has six fountains each with different types of water, as well as a fizzy carbogasosa pool.

There are several budget hotels near the Rodoviária, while mid-range options (all with pools and rates that include full board) can be found either on or near the main square. Of these, the Hotel Ideal, at Rua Afonso Vilhena Paiva 245 (tel 035/3271-1143, fax 3271-1650; $20-35), is probably the best value, basic but comfortable. The Hotel Itaici (tel & fax 035/3271-1366; $20-35) at Rua Dr José dos Santos 320 is of a similar standard. The town's best hotel, the Hotel Parque, Rua Américo Werneck 46 (tel 035/3271-2000; $70-90), with its own lake, thermal pools, fishing and other sports facilities is very pleasant and excellent value for money.
