Like many of the west-coast resorts, ÁYIOS YEÓRYIOS , 6km north of Paleokastrítsa, isn't actually based around a village. The resort has developed in response to the popularity of its large sandy bay, and it's a major windsurfing centre, busy even in low season. There is one particularly good-value hotel , the Alkyon Beach (tel 06630/56 204, fax 96 206; ¬34-42), some rooms at the Arista supermarket (tel 06630/96 350; up to ¬24) or Studio Eleana (tel & fax 06630/96 366; ¬34-42) and the San George campsite (tel 06630/51 759), nearly 1km back from the beach towards Kavvadhádhes. On the way north towards Áyios Stéfanos, the pleasant sandy beach of Aríllas has given rise to gradual development, including several tavernas - try Kostas on the Beach . The northernmost of the west-coast's resorts, ÁYIOS STÉFANOS is low-key, popular with families and a quiet base from which to explore the northwest and the Dhiapóndia islands, visible on the horizon. Day-trips to Mathráki, Othoní and Eríkoussa run every Thursday in season, and range from ¬14.65 to ¬23.50 per person. Áyios Stéfanos's oldest hotel , the Nafsika (tel 06630/51 051, fax 51 112; ¬34-42), has a large restaurant, a favourite with villagers, and gardens with a pool and bar. In recent years it has been joined by the upmarket Thomas Bay (tel 06630/51 767, fax 51 913; ¬59-72) and Hotel San Stefano (tel 06630/51 053, fax 51 202; ¬34-42), attached to the Golden Beach taverna. For those on a budget, Pelis and Maria's gift shop offers bargain rooms (tel 06630/51 424; ¬24-33) and the Restaurant Evinos (tel & fax 06630/51 766; ¬24-33) has apartments above the village. A number of travel agencies handle accommodation, among them San Stefanos (tel 06630/51 910, fax 51 771, steftrav@otenet.gr ) in the centre. Besides the above-mentioned hotels, good options for eating include the Waves and very reasonable Mistral tavernas above the beach, while O Manthos taverna serves Corfiot specialities like sofríto and pastitsádha . For nightlife , there's a couple of lively music bars, Magnet and Athens , plus the small Enigma nightclub.
